Being is Sales the perks are traveling and being able to find hidden gems like Little Bigs. I felt like a kid in a candy store ! So many selections, what to choose; and let's be real you can't just get one ! I got a box of 4 ! Nutella & Banana, Bittersweet Chocolate, Maple Bacon Crella, and the Raspberry Bismarck. Let's just say the Nutella & Banana was screaming my name and didn't even make it out of the parking lot before it was in my mouth ! So delicious, light and airy, had a hint of fried dough taste; and just the correct ratio of banana to Nutella. I will def be back to sopo to try the hand pies as they looked just as scrumptious !

Oh. My. God. Pay no mind to the strip mall exterior, for when you enter you will be journeying in to a world of pure imagination. (Apologies to Gene Wilder, but seriously.) Walking in to Little Bigs you may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices, the imaginative flavor creations or the tantalizing smells. The good news is, you really can't go wrong. My personal fave from a recent trip? Banana and Nutella. At the other end of the sweet spectrum was a fantastic lemon curd. Lastly I tried a potato crust pie with cheese and asparagus. While still delish, I'd go straight doughnut next time. It's food like this that gives me motivation to go to the gym.

After reading the reviews I was so excited to try them so I drove 45mins and was extremely disappointed. The donut was greasy to the taste at least for my liking, it actually gave me an upset stomach, I had gotten two vanilla glazed two sugar cinnamon one coconut and one raspberry cream cheese filling. I ate the raspberry and my family ate the rest. Although the filling was delicious the donut it self tasted like it was deep fried. Was expecting soft and fluffy .

My wife and I debated what I should rate this place but. I will give them a four, she would give them a three. I believe this place is better than Holy Donut but still not quite my type. I ordered the Boston Almond Cream which was pretty good and slightly fluffy. The almond is ok but I wouldn't get it again. I like the variety of choices here and I could have chosen about 5 or 6 others. My wife went with the egg pie and walked away wanting something to drink. She said it was dry and being cold didn't help. We thought they might be warm and didn't realize until we were in the car. Maybe we should have asked for her to warm it up or she could have informed us to warm it up. The one thing that gives this place a four is not really their product. I had the best cup of coffee that I have had in a long time. They carry coffee by design and were serving the Black and Tan today. Wow! I could drink that every morning. I loved the flavor of it. Amazing cup to get my juices flowing of walking around Ft. Williams Park.

I'm not sure when donuts came back into style, but I am more than happy to eat my way through this trend. Long live donuts. May their reign last forever. That being said: Little BIGS is prime for delicious doughy treats. I had a chance to try the key lime curd and Boston cream. The donut itself is perfectly crisp and chewy. The key lime curd was a nice tart contrast to the sweet glaze. The Boston cream's puddingy center was all smooth and vanilla wonderful. With a chocolate frosted top and sliced almonds for a little crunch, it was crazy delicious. I was (and still am!) a huge fan of Holy Donut, but Little BIGS gives them a run for their money.

It's been several months since our trip to Portland, Maine. I can assure you the one thing we still talk about is Little Big's donuts. This was the only place on our trip that we went back to 3 times. All other donuts will now be compared to what we had here, and they'll most likely come up lacking. It's not just the donuts, but the staff is super nice and the (I'm asuming) owner was friendly and even remembered each time we went back. Get the Boston Cream or the espresso cream with dark chocolate icing and be sure to grab a cup of CBD while you're there. We may have to engineer a way to make it back here eventually.

I don't stand a chance now that I've discovered this place. Their donuts are: moist, flakey, flavorful and not too sweet. Great spot.

This is a hidden Gem that has the most delicious food! I've found myself addicted to their donuts, absolutely love their French crullers..they taste like their French toast flavored. Yum! If you haven't tried their food, you're missing out!

This is a bakery and is all about the food. If you're expecting a coffee shop to lounge around in while you eat, look elsewhere. That being said, DO NOT overlook this ace as the food is amazing. Half the food wasn't labelled but we had some kind of bacon, cheddar & hen quiche that was really good. The pastry with ham and cheddar was even better and the maple bacon crullers were out of this world. I would pop in again but they're closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Great new spot! Interesting eclectic selection. Loved the Boston/Bavarian Creme donut. Maple Bacon was also interesting. Savory lunch pastries also available-- the chicken pot pie was flaky and buttery and delicious.

Delicious hand pies but the doughnuts are HEAVENLY!!! I had a lemon curd doughnut and it was, hands down, the best doughnut I've ever eaten. Don't pass this place up - you won't be disappointed!

As good as it gets for a bakery. We have never been South Portland. Man was this a find, everything was delicious. Even though we took a decent amount of time selecting our goods the owner was friendly and helpful.

The variety at little bigs is awesome... The donuts are not like Holy Donut donuts, I consider them of a different variety (not better or worse, just different) I like their hand pies too - a nice savory treat. CBD coffee available!

Instead of hitting up Tim's or Dunk's in our rush to get to work after the daycare drop off, we had some time and decided to visit Little Bigs again. I'm sorry to say that all 3 doughnuts we purchased were very oily which gave a crusty / overcooked / stale taste to them. Boo. I did get a chicken pot pie for lunch and that was very filling and tasty. We hadn't been to LB in so long, but this visit didn't stand out enough to come back soon either.

Does everyone know about Little Bigs? If not they SHOULD. Little Bigs is phenomenal and definitely a hidden gem. If this place was in downtown Portland there would be a line out the door. Luckily it's right down the street from my doctor's in South Portland and I can go here to grab some breakfast whenever I have an appointment (and they have parking!). They have sweet AND savory pastries to satisfy all of your cravings. Sweet and sour chicken hand pie? CHECK! Raspberry Bismarck? CHECK! Donuts that rival other super popular local places? YUP! Aaand Coffee by Design coffee to top it all off. It's an open kitchen format and the chefs are right there to greet you with a good morning. Little Bigs is THE place. Definitely worth going out of your way for. I haven't been to Tony's but I don't think I'll go now that I know about Little Bigs. They're only open Wed - Sun until 3pm so make sure you plan accordingly! Yippee skippy!

Holy Cow! I feel like a freaking idiot for not going to this place before now. I work less than a couple of minutes away and never really realized it was there. Don't bother reading my review or any other reviews...just go! I had the Bismarck with raspberry & cream cheese & a glazed doughnut. Let me tell you, I haven't noshed that well in a long time!

This place has such interesting pastries, I wish that I lived closer to it, because I would go every day. And get very fat. Picked up a cheeseburger pastry, simply astonishing that they can catch the various flavors of a cheeseburger in a pastry format, absolutely astonishing. And then I got a samosa, fabulous. This place is simply phenomenal.

Went back, as over the last few months I've been craving the PBJ doughnut. They didn't have any PBJ doughnuts today but I picked up two maple glazed crullers and a coconut one. Oh my word. Fantastic! Seriously. They were delicious, soft and custardy, almost French toast like. And the coconut doughnut? Exceptional. Texture was better today, as the last visit some of the doughnuts seemed tough and were hard to even cut. Today they were practically perfect. I'll miss Little Bigs when we move.

Yum! As I sit writing this review, I am just craving some more deliciousness. While the building is quite unobtrusive, the interior is clean and the food is organized. The counter person was friendly and was able to answer questions and one of the guys in the kitchen area thanked me as I left. The food though. I had two hand pies, a quiche and a donut, which I split amongst some friends so we could try all the things. :) It was amazing. The quiche maintained a great creamy egg texture, which is so hard to get exactly right. The donut was sweet but not overly heavy. The hand pies were chock full of goodness and had the right proportion of dough to filling ratio. A few MINOR things that keep me from giving this place a total five star experience. I don't LOVE that the food is uncovered on racks, but I think that's just a personal, germaphobic thing and it isn't something I would hold against them. While the food items are labeled, they don't have basic ingredients. I know that in a lot of my reviews I harp on being an allergy sufferer, but its nice to get the gist of the ingredients so that I don't have to be annoying and ask what is in everything. I don't expect them to break down EVERYTHING that goes into it, but just a list of what the contents are supposed to be would be nice. The counter person was nice about it, but it is nice not to have to ask (i.e. quiche versus quiche with tomatoes and spinach). Even if I just didn't like a kind of food, I think that this could be useful. Overall, these are TINY, very unimportant things that held back just one star. I would definitely return and I have already recommended it to a few friends.

Little Bigs continues to amaze! As we head into the summer months, they keep adding to their extensive line of hand pies: spicy pork, all American cheeseburger, and the delightful buffalo chicken to name a few. These self contained meals seem custom designed to make a picnic or bring to the beach. Of course the donuts make a perfect breakfast, dessert, snack any time of year!

Being eight months pregnant and having some pretty serious carb cravings, I was super excited to try little bigs for breakfast this morning. I picked out three doughnuts and a hand pie for hubs and myself to try. I dove face first into a peanut butter donut with chocolate glaze. That first bite left me extremely underwhelmed. The taste and consistency reminded me of peanut butter fried dough. Meh. Next up was a raspberry and cream cheese filled donut. Wow. This one was amazing! The dough was light and airy and the filling was ooey gooey and scrumptious! I would definitely make the drive to sopo just for that. We then tried the pulled pork hand pie. Can I just say, I freaking love pie. And whoever invented hand pies should be named ruler of the universe. This pie was hot and the crust was buttery and flakey. I wasn't a fan of the onions in the pulled pork filling but I'll definitely be returning to try one of the many other savory hand pies they were offering. Overall, it was a fun and pleasant experience. I'll be back!

Went back today to get goodies for friends. I was excited to find that the bittersweet chocolate w peanut butter crumbles were vegan so no cream! Although I went with the Concord grape jam raised donut. I introduced myself and met the staff and they apologized for the mix up in my last visit.

Meh, I don't believe the hype, and my ass loves me a doughnut. Their doughnuts look great, and their staff - especially the bakers - were ultra friendly and nice - but my choice did not leave me impressed. I went with a regular vanilla glazed, 1. because I wasn't that hungry but wanted to try this place and 2. the other doughnuts had too much going on for me, honestly - and it was sort of stale and not that flavorful. I guess it was a yeast doughnut, but again, the texture was not great. It seems like their doughnuts are more about being fancy doughnuts than anything else :/ I'd maybe go back, but would probably rather just drive over to the Holy Donut or even Tony's.

For a long time now, like since they opened, my dad has been telling me fantastic things about Little Bigs. Well, this past Sunday, I finally got there. Having given my folks a lift somewhere, I passed by on my way back to their house where my hubby was still asleep. I was waved in and given warm welcome even though I got there a couple mins before they actually opened. (A few more people walked in RIGHT on my heels.) The variety was too much to pick from. I got way more than I should so hubby and I could share. It was all well worth it, even if it took almost 3 days to get around to eating them all. Fluffy, light, not overly sweet, well balanced flavors, generously sized..... I'm drooling as I type. Having been a Mainer more than 20 of my 30 years of life, I can say places that provide friendly service and consistently fabulous product/services will always have a home there. I've only been here once and I'm positive it will be here for years to come if they keep on like they did for me this visit. Bravo!

This really is the best doughnut place that I've been to. Neither my husband nor I are breakfast people, but I had read about this place in a couple of articles when it first opened so we decided to try it out while we happened to be in the area one morning. We've now been here several times when we're driving through early in the morning, and everything we've tried has been fantastic. I'm partial to their maple crullers, which are really unlike anything I'd had before (certainly not the same doughnutty texture that I had always thought crullers to be as a child). They're eggy and light and I believe might have a touch of black pepper in them - they're seriously awesome and I think everyone should try them! Their raised doughnuts are also amazing - we've tried a few flavors, but the bittersweet chocolate frosted and cinnamon sugar both jump out as my favorites. We also happened to swing by while they had a couple of leftover CNDs (croissant doughnuts) that were available... and while my husband and I both agreed they were tasty and decadent, I'd still probably prefer one of their regular doughnuts or crullers (they were just SO rich and heavy). I'll admit that I've never tried anything else since I'm always lured in by the doughnuts, but it all looks amazing - and very reasonably priced!

So happy that Little Bigs set up shop in SOPO... Their donuts are bar none the best I have ever had...especially their vanilla glaze and the lemon curd.Wowza. So good. I have had almost all of their hand pies, And have been particularity fond of the chicken pot pie and the Thai chicken versions. I was super excited for their brat rolls, but disappointed when I realized the brat itself was not fully cooked inside. But, after cooking another 15 minds- it was still damn tasty. Don't be fooled- this unassuming shop from the outside is incredible things inside!

We always try to find something fun and unique and searched this place out after reading the reviews on Yelp. What a little gem!! The donuts are very pretty and maybe they are better when hot, but we did find them a tad oily. BUT... You must try the hand pies!!! We tried 3 of the different breakfast hand pies and the owner heated them in the oven for us. They were so yummy. I wish we would have had more time to go back and try some of the others.

Little location, BIG in awesomeness! Amazing donuts with fantastic flavors. Very nice workers who are willing to talk about their awesome donuts. Cronuts are a special order, so don't expect to just get any

The best looking donuts I have ever laid my eyes upon. I was on my way to the airport, made a pit stop, and bought a bunch of donuts to take home with me. Holy Cow these are the best donuts I've ever had in my life. The maple glazed bacon donut tasted just like french toast, the boston cream was not too sweet, but just the right amount of flavor. ALL the donuts were light, flaky, and fluffy. Seriously, these babies are large and look heavy, but once you take that first bite you'll realize how soft and light they are. I could easily eat 3 with no problem, but I had to share all the donuts I bought haha It's a small little spot right across the street from a gas station if you need to fill up. The owners were SUPER friendly and patient. I didn't feel rushed selecting donuts and believe me there are A LOT of donuts to pick from. I honestly would have bought one of each if I didn't have to worry about carrying them on the airplane. They also sell quiche and other dessert items. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend buying a few donuts...that's right, not just one! You can see all the hard work and love put into the little babies with the decorating detail, the right amount of flavor, and the overall presentation. They are baked to perfection. For the size and quality put into the donuts, the prices are extremely fair. I was so shocked everything came out to be pretty inexpensive. Again, try some donuts! You will not be disappointed! I'm already craving a few more of these babies. Mmmmmm

Okay, I see all the amazing reviews that Little Bigs has and I think to myself, "am I crazy?" "Did I get a bad batch?" I had a single vanilla glazed donut and it was honestly one of the worst donuts I've ever had. It was so doughy and chewy, I couldn't finish it. The glaze was overpowering and cloying. I'm not sure what to make of the situation and I almost feel guilty writing this review. Sorry Little Bigs but I gotta call 'em as I see 'em.

A popular foodie website recently listed the seven places to eat and drink "incredibly well" in Portland, ME. What I appreciated about the list was that each place mentioned was not one of the stereotypical "hot-spots" in the city. Little BIGS, which I had never heard of, was the one that caught my attention. The bakery-meet-"soul food" (as they classify themselves) has just opened in South Portland. It's run by Pamela Fitzpatrick and James Murray Plunkett, and they're producing fantastically inventive gourmet donuts and beautifully crafted savory treats (like pasties, pot pies, gluten-free egg pies, and calzones). We visited the place after they had been open for two weeks. Both the boyo and I thought we had entered the door directly into the kitchen because there didn't seem to really be a counter. That's how "new" they are - Pamela was behind a makeshift counter tucked up against bake racks and ovens. She was very friendly and informative, taking the time to run through every available food item sitting on a nearby rack - and not just WHAT they were, but what was inside each one. In the end I settled on four things: a blueberry "pop tart", a citrus curd donut, a grape jelly donut, and a Boston (almond) cream. SIDE NOTE: For such amazing product, I thought for sure the total would be between $12 or $15, so when she told us the final price ($8) I was visibly shocked. I wonder if - once people catch on to this place - the price will go up in months to come? I can easily see these donuts being sold for $4 (heck, I would buy them for that price!). Hopefully, though, hey don't go that route! The blueberry "pop tart" - Pamela told us she uses both fresh and dried blueberries to really bring out the flavor of these pop tart shaped pastries. Of the four things I tried, these were probably my least favorite. They were a little too dry and crumbly for my liking and tasted a bit like something you might get at a church bake sale. The citrus curd donut - these were inspired by VooDoo Donuts (in Portland, OR) Tang donuts, only Pamela has intentionally made hers a little less overpowering. They were very doughy (actually, the donut itself tasted like a fried dough you might get at a fair), and the citrus did have just enough of a sour kick to it to make each bite interesting (the GOOD kind of interesting)! The grape jelly donut - this is when I fell a little in love with Little BIGS. I only got this donut because I'm a sucker for champagne grapes, which these donuts are adorned with. Actual grape jelly, in my opinion, is disgusting. But this donut... this was the donut me and the boyo fought over and made me rethink grape jelly's existence as a positive one! Again, the donut itself was fried dough-esque in texture and flavor (minus the grease that is), but filled with the most flavorful grape jelly I've EVER had in my life. It tasted like actual grapes, and not like sugar or artificially processed purple goo. And then, there was the Boston (almond) cream donut... which changed my ever-loving donut world. It is exactly what you think it's going to taste like, but with rich almond cream and crunchy almonds sprinkle on top. It is THE BEST Boston cream donut I've ever had in my life. If you're a fan of the donut-meets chocolate-meets pastry cream trio, you need to get one of these sinfully delicious treats! (Oh, and recently I went back and hooverd down a coffee brûlée donut.... seriously, it's what dreams are made of.) The best part about Little BIGS donuts? They don't leave that grainy "sweater" feeling on your teeth after you've eaten one (or three) like other places do! Yes, Portlanders, sometimes we see South Portland as "a bit of a drive." But, do yourself a favor, and go out of your way to check this little, big place out before they become uber popular (FYI: they're already beginning to sell out before the place even closes at 3pm)!

I find myself visiting nearly every Sunday morning. I am always delighted by the smell of fresh donutty goodness tickling my nostrils, and the sight of the shiny bakers rack bursting with levels of yeast and cake donuts, pretzels, mini pies, and sometimes cookies. Like a little kid, I have trouble choosing just one and have to remind myself that a lady of my age should not be jumping up and down with excitement, impatient for my turn at the counter. Its hard to contain my eagerness as I wait in line, crossing my fingers, praying the customers in front of me won't get that last bacon, spinach and onion egg pie. I have felt the sting of disappointment on seeing the last one selected, and the joy of being told that there are more and they are fresh. I bring my Boston friends, hoping that the promise of the flaky A1 pork pie with the piggy cut out will entice them to drive an hour and three quarters more frequently to keep us company in our new city, despite the snow and cold. Sometimes we buy all the samosas, because my friend from India can't find any in Boston that come so close to the potato-filled dumplings like the ones back home. We are careful to ensure no one orders the same thing, so we can try a little of everything. If we can, we wait until we get home and put our treasures in the toaster oven and painstakingly cut the donuts into equal portions to share as an appetizer. Other times, we can't control our appetites. We eat standing in the parking lot like animals, leaving a pathetic pile of crumbs behind. I have been known to suck the stray bits of glaze off of my shirt, anteater-style. After making a reservation two and half weeks in advance, I finally tasted the non-Cronut, C&D or whatever its called now. While it was not undelicious, I feel like many of their other yeasty creations are so much more hype-worthy. My personal favorite is the citrus curd donut. The first bite tantalizes with soft subtle sweetness before the curdy middle hits the tongue and makes the mouth pucker, bringing just a tiny tear to the eye. Even now, my tummy is rumbling, in anticipation of next Sundays trip to Little BIGS.

I am convinced that anyone who writes a bad review for Little Bigs either woke up on the wrong side of the bed or is just a grouch. Little Bigs is an establishment for the anti-grouch. Anyway, who can be grouchy eating a donut or a hand pie? In all fairness, I love donuts-all donuts. Including nana plain. Little Bigs donuts take donut inhaling to a whole new level. They are airy, sweet, tangy and delicious. The lemon curd is heavenly. The Bismarck is pillowy and has just the right amount of sweet. And the hand pies have flaky, buttery crust and the fillings are unique and incredibly flavorful. Moral of this story? Go to Little Bigs, go often (hungry) and leave the grouches at home. Or stuff a donut in their pie hole and keep their fingers away from reviewing. Because honestly, it's not about the donuts for those people, is it?

Super awesome deliciousness! Raspberry pie, boston cream pie donut, asparagus/goat cheese hand pie. All for breakfast. I'm never leaving. Super friendly knowledgable owner to boot! Don't pass by!

TINY hidden spot. SO YUMMY. I got to eat amazing chocolate covered donuts and pastries that were vegan. I am allergic to dairy and it is impossible to find this. I may have been a cop in another life because I love donuts and am very picky! Their food is just exquisite.

I didn't feel like eating too heavy, so I asked if they had something small so I could just try their goods. They gave me a small glazed donut that was missing its donut hole (they put donut holes on top of the donuts) for free with a smile and told me to enjoy and come back again when I'm ready. What a place! I took one bite, and it was enough to instantly award this place 5 stars. Incredible. A perfect donut. The storefront is basically just the corner of the bakery, which I thought was neat. It's all about the baking. I'm looking forward to going back and eating more. That bite was just heavenly.

Seriously speechless after eating their crullers and donuts. It is the kind of food you keep thinking about days later. Love them, and you all need to go to keep them in business.

I've been wanting to check out Little BIGS since I read about them on Yelp. When a place is new and gets such high marks from Yelpers, especially some of the Yelp-erati, I take note. I don't do a lot of sweets/pastries, but when I do, I want it to be worth the calorie-count, and subsequent workout(s) required to burn them off. Since I already had calories "in the bank" this morning from my early AM swim at the SoPo Community Pool, and Little BIGS was about 2 miles away, I was all about making a morning donut/pastry run afterwards. So glad I did!! The location, while not exactly hidden, was easy to miss coming from that side of town and I went right by it, over the railroad overpass, and I had to turn around. Here's an easy landmark to locate Little BIGS if you're visiting for the first time; it's next to Local Acapulco Tanning. Good-sized lot, also. I walked in and it wasn't busy, so I had a chance to meet and chat up owners, James Murray Plunkett (busy baking away) and Pamela Fitzpatrick Plunkett. Great people, very friendly, and all about answering my questions and helping me make some great selections (you didn't think I was walking out with one item, did you?). I went with two glazed donuts, one for me and one for my better half. What's really neat about their donuts, at least the glazed ones, is that they save the donut hole, and you get a donut and a bonus donut hole, all perfectly glazed, and melt in your mouth. These aren't your run-of-the-mill "air" donuts, typical of places where "America runs on _____" as their tagline. If I was running on their donuts, I'd be running down. In fact, one of their delectable glazed donuts has had me running all morning and it's now early afternoon and I'm just thinking about lunch. Luckily for me, Pamela talked me into going with one of their egg pies, which they also make in-house, so I'll be sampling some more Little BIGS' goodness in a few minutes, as soon as I wrap up my review duties. These small, hand-made pies, with a variety of different fillings remind me, and I'd describe them as being like a mini-quiche that fits in the palm of your hand. Great-looking mini-pie crusts, and the smells coming off the pie rack had me, not to mention the amazing visuals of a rack of not only donuts, but these amazing little pies, which they also offer for lunch. I was a fan of Frosty's and liked to stop post-swimming for a treat for the road. Unfortunately they closed their SoPo location. Luckily, Little BIGS will be able to fill that void with donuts that I think are even better, and that's saying something, as I'm down with Frosty's for donuts. Count me as a fan, for sure!

These donuts are incredible. Frosted or filled, glazed or topped with a crunchy piece of bacon, you will definitely be able to find a perfect one (or two, or three) for you. The staff are friendly and helpful. The donuts are imaginative and well-made, a different type of donut than you'll find at the other places in Portland. Parking is easy and it is located just near a busy, South Portland intersection where you can easily pop in for a quick treat. Don't worry Portlanders, the trip off of the peninsula to the mysterious land of SoPo is definitely worth your while. If you'd like to try one of their C&Ds (a ala cronut style) be sure to make a reservation well in advance.

Since there's no way I would get up early enough on a school day to drive to South Portland and back, I dragged Kyung R and Kendra E out to get donuts a few weekends ago! (Okay I didn't quite drag them bc I didn't drive) The shop is in a super quiet little plaza, and all three of us were staring in awe as soon as we stepped through the door. With so many amazing-looking donuts, how would we decide?! Between the 3 of us, we bought over a dozen items. Our plan was to divide and conquer (or... cut them up and share would be a nicer way of saying it). Here are my thoughts: -Bacon/Maple donut: Smells great, too fluffy for my liking -Coffee Cream: The donut base was normal, unless it was covered in coffee cream, I didn't taste anything -Raspberry: Good, even 4 days later -Normal: Can't beat the classic. Comes w/ a donut hole on top -Lemon curd: Refreshing, but very light flavor -Egg pies: These came in multiple flavors. Delicious. Go get one or two. Overall, the place is cute. The egg pies were amazing, and that's probably all I'll get in future trips!

You know I really do not want to review this place. "Why", you ask? Well let's see there should be a line out the door for this place, Tony's donut ( which I have been a big fan) should be saying "we shouldn't have opened a store in South Portland". This place is legitimately the 1 or 2 best donut place around. Holy Donuts direct competition is now open and ready to take them on. You are not going to get much in the way of looks, rack of donuts and cash registrar with a card reader on and iPad. These donuts are great. Tried three of the raspberry and cream cheese, lemon curd, and Boston Cream. All of them are the size of two fists. Also tried the sausage hand pie, like a mini calzone that had a great crunch and savory cheese and seasoning. If you don't go here you are pretty much saying I hate amazing donuts, but if do go here and see a 20 to 30 something, muttering why are there so many people in line, well you just met me.

Really really really good donuts. They're like fried, sugar coated croissants dough deliciousness. Nice treat to raise your spirit above the weather. Will be back to spend paycheck here once I feel frivolous with my money.

How have I been in Portland for almost a year and only discovered little bigs yesterday? My waistline schemes against me, yet again. These crullers are otherworldly. I have no idea how they manage to get them crispy on the outside and doughy, pillowy...almost creamy on the inside. I tried plain one day and maple another and both were amazing; I would give maple the slight edge. Not too sweet, a little salt. Heaven. Coffee was perfection, rap music was jamming (their self-described "donut-making music") and the owner was friendly and remembered me. Little Bigs now also does events and will deliver the goods to you, so remember them for your next morning meeting at work...These treats will make any Monday morning feel like a Friday!

Spot on for their flaky, buttery and delicious pastry crust on the hand pies. It is so challenging to find a bakery that does a light flaky crust so well. I inhaled my 2 hand pies within 15 minutes- one in the parking lot and the other while enroute back to work. The spinach artichoke goat cheese had a lot of filling that was creamy and perfect for the crust to filling ratio. The flavor while tasty is a bit mild for me. But their Thai Chicken has got me. That was my favorite- filled with chicken, carrots, water chestnuts for the perfect textural components and spicy flavor really brought it home for me. This crust did appear and feel a bit different than the spinach artichoke one- it wasn't as flaky (more dense and pie like) but appropriate because the crust needs to be a bit more sturdy to hold the chicken. I loveeeddd it. I'd eat 4774289283 more. I also am a glutton and have 2 donuts- lemon curd and the chocolate almond boston cream. I've had the lemon one so far and to be honest I found the donut to be a tad too chewy for my liking. Granted, that is probably just their style of donut. But their almond bostom cream just like everyone is raving about is TO DIE FOR. I love anything almond and this truly satisfied my taste buds. I'm looking forward to tasting everything on the menu. =)

An easy 5 stars. This has become our new standard for grab and go weekend breakfast treats. The doughnuts are amazing. the texture alone elevates them above other doughnuts in town. the selection of fillings / flavors never disappoints. the hand pies are first rate. The samosa is super tasty and the veggies have just the right amount of crunch. The egg pies have a potato crust, it is unexpected and just right. Special mention for the pretzels. I order one and I want two, I order two and I want three. They are a weekend special only. You won't find them there on a Wednesday morning. With amazing coffee rosters in town (tandem, matt's...) why does everyone only serve coffee by design? These special treats deserve a better accompaniment.

Little Bigs was great. The staff was fantastic and the Pork hand pie I had for lunch was amazing. I had also been looking for a place near by to my office to sit. have a coffee and work and the staff was great helping me get onto their WiFi. I would definitely recommend this place for their yummy food and fantastic service.

I love this place, there I said it! The doughnuts are great but it is the hand pies that are the gem that can so easily be overlooked. I especially like the pork pie, this amazing little crusty pouch is filled with some amazing tasty magic that keeps me going back time and time again. I also am a fan of the chicken pot pie and the texas chili. If you have gone for the doughnuts, go back for the hand pies, if you haven't been you need to go and feed your inner foodie!

Sorry to go against prevailing opinion here, but this place did not live up to the hype for me. My devils food doughnut with chocolate glaze was really greasy, as in you could squeeze the grease out greasy. Maybe their raised doughnuts are better than their cake doughnuts, or maybe today's fryer messed up.

So, I wrote this not great review of the Holy Donut a while back which left me wondering if I was just a huge donut snob. When friends raved about Little Bigs I knew I was going to have to check it out and see if another new player on Portlands rapidly expanding donut scene could win me over. They did. They make really fantastic donuts. Got there just after opening on a Sunday and a large order had pretty much wiped them out of ready to go inventory - so donuts were hand filled for our 1/2 dozen sampler box. LOVE their glazed donut with the hole on top - light and delicious with a crispness to the outside, somewhat reminiscent of a truly decadent funnel cake taste. LOVE. The bismark, jelly, and cream filled ones were fantastic, but my favorite was the maple/bacon cruller. Yes, they make a cruller! Everyone in the house LOVED them. Totally not for regular eating but spectacular for a once in a while treat. Suggestions to the team there? Seems like there are 3 separate prices for the donuts which made it very slow to ring up/check out (and there was a line forming behind me) that morning. I think if you charged the same (seriously, just go with the $1.79 per donut, people will be ok w/ it) for each one it would be way faster for you guys to move on to the next customer! But that's just the time management craziness that runs through my head. I also know they weren't expecting to be as busy as they are through the Maine winter! I hope they stick around!

A bunch of us were meeting in SoPo for a wedding, I had heard about Little BIGS on a news report and decided I really needed to try the C&Ds. I checked their facebook page and asked if they were still making them. They told me I could call and reserve some. So I called and asked for some on a Saturday, they told me they only make them on Sundays - bummer...but they said hang on a sec, and then came back and said yes, they would make them for us on Saturday! I ordered two dozen and have to say at $3 ea, it's a good deal! We got there early on Saturday (a whole hour!), and they were still proofing so we took one for the team and got two donuts and two coffees. I had the banana/nutella donut and my husband had the bittersweet chocolate with peanut butter streusel topping...both were amazing! I had wanted to try the savory meat pies, but after that, well, there was no room left! The staff were so very nice, friendly and competent (so much nicer than a certain chain donut place!). The donuts and the C&Ds were amazing!! I'll be stopping again next time I'm in SoPo!!!

My fiancé and I definitely have our favorite places in Portland to go when it comes to donuts. There are your "healthier" donuts, your "traditional" donuts, and then there's Little BIGS. Yes, Little BIGS is in its own category of donuts because it's unlike anything I've ever had before. Unless you know this place exists, you are losing out on one of Portland's finest eateries. Not only does Little BIGS carry donuts, but they also make homemade savory pies which are to die for! Over the weekend, my fiancé and I finally got to try some of their donuts we've been hearing so much about. My fiancé drove to Little BIGS while I stayed home, awaiting his return. Unfortunately, he ended up calling me once he arrived saying that the Boston crème donut with almond's was sold out. Apparently they got so busy that most of their donuts had already sold out! A little bummed but still eager, I instead opted for the s'mores donut. When my fiancé got back to our apartment, I couldn't believe what I had in front of me. Picture in your head a s'mores literally on top of a massive donut, covered in chocolate glaze. Yup, that was my breakfast and it was out of this world! My fiancé on the other hand, had a bacon filled donut with a maple glaze. Yes you read that right, I said a BACON filled donut. Of course as you can imagine, we've already been back to Little BIGS as we visited there this morning. This time I tried one of their savory pies; a potato encrusted cupcake looking thing, filled with spinach, tomatoes, and goat cheese. It was excellent! Don't be surprised though when you walk in to literally walk right into their kitchen. There is no seating area inside expect for a small table outside to the left. Little BIGS has very unique items though so do yourself a favor and visit them soon!

Great doughnut place with a variety of favors. I loved the Bismarck which had a raspberry jam filling and cream cheese filling, perfect balance of sweet and tart creamy. Also really enjoyed their lemon curd and their maple bacon cruller. Their hand pies were just okay I would have skipped them to try some of their other doughnut flavors

The donuts look amazing and taste amazing. The glazed donut had the perfect amount of glaze that did not taste like you were eating a spoonful of sugar. The people there are extremely nice and friendly.

On my most recent visit back home my mom recommended (every. single. day.) we stop here to grab some hand pies. Finally on our last day home my husband and I stopped by Little BIGS. We walked in probably an hour before closing and got 2 savory pies and 2 doughnuts, they were out of the 2 doughnut flavors we asked for (I can't remember exactly what we ordered as it was a couple months ago..something like a Boston creme and a raspberry something or other) but the awesome lady said "I can make you some right now" and she was able to fill and frost some fresh doughnuts for us, nice! The savory pies and the doughnuts were all just DELICIOUS! The crust on the savory pies was perfect and, despite being a meal that fits in the palm of your hand, they are super satisfying and filling. Little BIGS is definitely on our ever growing list of must stop places to eat when we are back in Maine!

Went there for the first time this morning and let me tell ya, SO GOOD! Couldn't help myself, so I picked up a few things...the maple-bacon cruller, ham & cheese hand pie, the chicken pot pie and the yeast cinn & sugar donut. Completely satisfied with everything there! Can't wait to try their C&D's!

What I like about this place is the food is close to you when you enter the store. Other places, the bakery items are 5 feet away. This place you can get closer. It helps me with the decisions. Last Thanksgiving I bought a pecan pie that I brought to dinner. My family was so happy and it tasted great!

If only my life could be unlimited lives on Candy Crush, beautifully crisp sunny days like the one today, and an endless supply of the wondrous confections created by the warm and charming Pamela. God love her! I totally agree with every other review written so far and then some. No other bakery on this earth can compare. Not even Standard and certainly not Scratch or Big Sky. Even if this place were in Montreal, I'd still probably flock here but it would be une choix difficile. There is no further discussion. I even got a made-to-order jelly donut since I arrived on the late side and supplies had dwindled. Had to try a raised, an old fashioned spicy deviled chocolate and a savory chicken pot pie. Flaky pate choux was totally over the top. I think there was a healthy dose of chipotle powder in the chocolate donut. And the almond effortlessly perched on top was tres chouette. All this for under $10.00. I was sated well beyond dinner and felt just a little guilty because I had promised myself not to spend any money eating outside the maison this weekend. But duty calls. Obviously, I'll be a regular. Funny location though....Beverages are interesting, San Pellegrino and Vernor's Ginger Ale. And yes it's small, no indoor seating and you're right in the thick of the kitchen.

This doesn't look like much from the outside, but pop in the door for one (okay, three or four) of the best donuts you can imagine, not to mention delicious savory turn-overs and good coffee. We had a buttermilk donut (soft and cakey), and two jam-filled donuts that were so good I wanted to weep. Add a lovely, helpful staff, and you've got a very memorable experience. I threw in a baked egg and cheese thing in a gluten-free potato crust, and it was perfect as well. Wish we didn't live so far away.

Not fancy from the outside and no place to sit indoors, but don't let that stop you. The food is amazing. We stopped in for a coffee and something light for breakfast and we can't wait to go back for lunch.

Get your little meal with BIG flavor here. Baked goods savory and sweet are abundant and also pleasing to all your senses as you stand in their retail shop/kitchen. Definitely try a donut and a savory pie of some sort. You won't be upset that you did. The couple from Chicago that run the place are super nice and informative. Keep on turning out your wonderful pastries.

Just had a savory hand pie (filled with curried chicken) and a bismarck from Little BIGs. So Good! What a surprise to find a good little bakery just down the street from me!! This part of town usually just caters to the Dunkin Donuts/ Dairy Queen crowd! This might be my new favorite place!

Full disclosure: I'm still in my car in the parking lot, considering going back in for more, and had to lick glaze off my fingers to write this review. So good!! The doughnuts have a wonderful chewy thing going on that I can't believe hasn't become the doughnut standard practice. It's so good. The savory stuff is amazing as well. Oh and the croissant coffee cake! Omg. Everyone working was happily buzzing around making treats. What a delight of a Sunday morning spot! Go support these people doing a great job and clearly loving their work!

WOW! What a wonderful bakery! We found their Facebook page before our recent trip to Portland and the pictures drew us in. They are fantastic in person! So much so that we went 5 times in one week and ordered more to take home. The sweet donuts are sweet, sinful morsels of creative genius. The savory hand pies are works of art! Many favors sweet and savory could keep you busy tasting for weeks to come. The shop looks like a gourmet kitchen with very friendly proprietors who seem to love what they do. They have quite a following already selling out every day quickly. Don't miss this new addition to Portland!

Following positive reviews from Yelp, my husband I stopped for a box of donuts while passing thru Portland on a recent road trip. There is nothing I can add to other reviews. The bakery deserves all 5-stars, and I could easily see us making the 2-hour drive up from NH just for another maple twist cruller. Seriously.

The best donut I've had in MY LIFE. I went a month ago and have been trying to find something similar to little bigs in New York. No luck. Best part is it's crispy, chewy, and not oily. I can't stop thinking about these donuts!

Mmmmmm

This is a hidden Gem that has the most delicious food! I've found myself addicted to their donuts, absolutely love their French crullers..they taste like their French toast flavored. Yum! If you haven't tried their food, you're missing out!

Texture of donut twist is more like fried dough, which is...AWEsome. Super fresh donuts, unique variety, nice people.Go there. Now.

I love their donuts! Whenever we are craving sweets we like to swing in and get a big assortment of pastries and just go to town! I never feel guilty about it because they are too tasty! Highly recommend this bakery!

Not fancy from the outside and no place to sit indoors, but don't let that stop you. The food is amazing. We stopped in for a coffee and something light for breakfast and we can't wait to go back for lunch.

What I like about this place is the food is close to you when you enter the store. Other places, the bakery items are 5 feet away. This place you can get closer. It helps me with the decisions. Last Thanksgiving I bought a pecan pie that I brought to dinner. My family was so happy and it tasted great!

Oh. My.

Went back today to get goodies for friends. I was excited to find that the bittersweet chocolate w peanut butter crumbles were vegan so no cream! Although I went with the Concord grape jam raised donut. I introduced myself and met the staff and they apologized for the mix up in my last visit.
